The French Connection film car chase was rated as the best ever, but the only scary chase in Cheshire will be to get your tickets in time for this best ever line up of French connected music !

On Saturday June 11th as part of the Folk Set In Sandstone series at Bickerton Village Hall RUNE play Anglo French Celtic music and include Cheshire exile Chris Dawson on flute and mandolin. Chris was known for his fine musicianship in his Cheshire heydays with Chew The Roots and is looking forward to a return visit to Cheshire. Many top folk musicians play Chris's hand manfactured Rhiannon flute and don't forget to watch out for his circular breathing trick on the flute, enabling him to play notes non stop.
Chris also plays with one of the top bands in France, Keltiac

In the line up is Cindy Pascher whose family are noted for their collection and preservation of French traditional music, and on fiddle the up and coming Camille Raibaud. Runes world music percussionist Hopi Hopkins is unable to attend this concert.

RUNES' guests are close harmony trio VOCAL POINT including John and Angie Owen of the Hungy Horse Folk Club and Wirral Folk on The Coast Festival and Sue Farley who was for many years part of the harmony group Allegro and was Director of Music for the Knowsley Singers. You will love their gentle interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk songs along with their a capella songs.

On Friday July 1st PIERRE BENSUSAN appears at The Royal British Legion in Middlewich. Pierre was voted 'Top World Music Guitar Player' readers choice by Guitar Magazine.
French-Algerian guitarist singer and composer Pierre Bensusan will be very ably supported by virtuoso guitarist NIGEL BECK.

If World Music is music that pays tribute to the spirit of a collection of human beings through distinct rhythms traditional instruments and harmonic colors Pierre Bensusan can be recognized as one of the most eloquent and diverse world musicians of our time.

Born in Oran French-Algeria 1957 when France was decolonizing its Empire Pierre Bensusan's family moved to Paris when he was 4. He began formal studies on piano at the age of 7 and at 11 taught himself guitar. Influenced in those early days by the folk revival blooming in Britain, France and North America, Bensusan began first to explore his own diverse musical heritage and then moved to the horizons beyond. At 17 he signed his first recording contract and one year later his first album Pres de Paris won the Grand Prix du Disque upon his debut at the Montreux Festival in Switzerland. Described by the L.A. Times as "one of the most unique and brilliant acoustic guitar veterans in the world music scene today.

He is a composer as well as a bilingual and a brave improvisational vocalist melding whistles and resonant low notes with something like his own scat technique.

There is a sense of something both playful and serious in his work and an unparalleled sense of freedom in his compositions and his improvisations. His "manner" of playing defies classification - crossing world classical jazz traditional folk and more, sharing and fusing cultures together in ways we have never experienced. Not to be missed !
