'Winner of Poynton Folk Festival Songwriters Competition 2005'
With over 40 years on the folk and acoustic music circuit Ann English continues to play gigs, concerts and music festivals all over the northwest of England, and in 2007 she has toured Ireland and the Gold Coast of Australia.
She is also available as a double act with Dominic Collins, providing a beautiful contrast to Dominics gentle and observant North West humour.
2005 saw the completion of her debut album 'Wonderful Life' which has been a great success and has received reviews in both City Life and Chorlton folk club magazine.
Ann has also had air play and interviews on two BBC GMR Radio programs, namely'Midnight with Michelle Mullane' & ' Sounds of Folk' with Bernard Cromity & Ali O'Brian and in October 2004 she sang live on Ted Robbins BBC Radio Lancashire breakfast show.
Ann is well respected among the Northwest folk & acoustic scene and still plays many local gigs in and around the Manchester area whilst continuing to help and encourage young, up and coming musicians.
She has trodden the boards with many well known folk artists including Bernard Wrigley, Bob Williamson, Mike Harding, Jasper Carrott, Dick Gaughan, Bert Jansch and Jackie McShee's Pentangel.
Ann supported Eddy Reader & her band on Saturday at Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival 2006 and hosted some fringe events over the busy weekend.
With lots of new venues coming up in the future, Ann will be performing material old and new, including songs from her latest album' Angels & Humans' recorded at R.B.Studios in Hyde Cheshire.
"Ann English supporting Eddi, a beautiful voice, beautiful songs and a great friend. Its a privilege to be given the opportunity to present talented musicians such as Ann and she deserves this recognition."
Liz Rosenfield, Festival Director, Middlewich Folk Festival.
"Anns' songwriting puts me in mind of Rosie Hardmans' work. I rather like English in celebratory mode 'painting this town red' and revelling in this 'wonderful life of mine' The album has an uncluttered sound and brings out the youthfulness of Englishs' voice."
Dave Tuxford, City Life, Sept 2004.
Ann English is not only the areas best female singer/songwriter but has to be up there with the U.Ks' best.
